William Donohue is the President of the Catholic League and was very instrumental in getting Opie and Anthony kicked off the air following Sex for Sam 3. After the incident, he contacted the FCC and asked that they revoke WNEW's broadcasting license and fine Infinity Broadcasting for airing the stunt. When it was announced that The Opie and Anthony Show was cancelled, Donohue withdrew his complaint.

After O&A returned to radio, they contacted Donohue in regards to a different story and ended up confronting him about his role in getting them kicked off the air. Donohue explained his side of things and O&A were able to see his point of view. This, as well as the fact that some time had passed since the incident, led O&A to bury the hatchet with Donohue. Likewise, Donohue saw no problem with O&A being on the air again, and wished them well when O&A returned to terrestrial radio in 2006.

Donohue has since become a frequent O&A call-in guest, often discussing religious and cultural controversies with the b-b-b-boys. O&A got Donohue and artist Cosimo Cavallaro to confront each other on air about Cavallaro's controversial milk chocolate sculpture of Jesus Christ. Donohue also got into a heated exchange with Louis C.K., with Louis calling Donohue a "blockhead".
