Opie/Norton On-Air Argument
From OAPedia.com
Friday, April 22, 2005 will forever be remembered by fans of the Opie and Anthony radio pogram as the day of the Opie/Norton On-Air Argument. On April 18, comedian Sean Rouse appeared on the show and did a very poor job at being funny. At the end of the show, Opie failed to do any promotion for Sean, which was perceived by Jim Norton to be a snub. On April 22, an hour of cringe radio ensued, as Jim and Opie traded barbs, insults, and potty language. At one point, Opie shouted "I don't know, dickhead, 'cause I don't know what went on that day, fuckface!" and Jimmy called Opie "sociopathic". All Anthony could do the whole time was sit back in awe, muttering phrases like "Holy shit!"
There was much speculation among the O&A fan community over what would happen because of the argument. Fans thought that the friendship between Opie and Jimmy was over, and that Jimmy would no longer be on the show. However, Opie and Jim called each other over the weekend and were friends again the next day. The following Monday, Jim was not on the show due to an HBO taping, but Opie gave an update on the argument, and spoke highly of his good friend Jim.
For some reason, XM decided to omit this argument from the replays that day and instead replaced it with O&A's interview with Tommy Chong. Opie and Jimmy stated their displeasure with this decision in the next live show and the entire argument was subsequently made available for download on FoundryMusic.com.
