Opie's Sports Curse is a curse that has followed Opie during his time on radio. While he was broadcasting in Buffalo, NY, the Buffalo Bills failed to win the Super Bowl. During his years on Boston radio, the New England Patriots failed to win as well. His favorite sports teams, the New York Islanders and the New York Jets, perform miserably. It was believed Opie's Sports Curse ended when the Boston Red Sox won the World Series in both 2004 and 2007, and when the New England Patriots went 18-0 during the 2007-2008 season, with only a win in the Super Bowl to make them undefeated. Unfortunately, the Patriots lost to the New York Giants in the big game, confirming that the Sports Curse was alive and well. In the 2011-2012 season, it came down to the Patriots and Giants rematch at Super Bowl XLVI. Opie, being a Jets fan, couldn't pick the Giants and went with the Patriots to win. Heading in, the Patriots were favored by 3½. Needless to say, the Patriots lost 21 to 17 after having a 9 point lead late into the 3rd. Opie's comment the next day was that his sports curse is now creeping him out.
