"Good luck bro" is an underwhelming show of support said to someone who is suffering from an illness, injury, or impending disaster. Said person will usually die shortly afterwards.
The origin of the phrase comes from when Opie saw a cancer-stricken Peter Jennings on the street, and all he could say was "Good luck bro". Jennings died a few weeks later.
