Gag order

The Opie and Anthony gag order was implemented by Howard Stern and Mel Karmazin to keep O&A from mentioning Howard's name on the air. If they did so, they would lose their jobs. The two biggest hypocrisies about the gag order were:

• That Howard portrayed himself as a champion of free speech, yet had O&A's speech silenced.
• That Howard would talk on his show about confronting his enemies on the air, yet tried to silence O&A behind the scenes.

Howard eventually admitted on Sean Hannity's radio show that he put the gag order in place.
