Eddie the Murderer was the name given to a man named Eddie from Queens that called into the WNEW show on May 14, 2002 and offered to allow Stalker Patti to stay at his house, since she was kicked out of the house she was living in at the time. The previous night, Stalker Patti stayed at a homeless shelter in the East New York section of Brooklyn, which is known to have the highest crime rate of any neighborhood in New York City.

After Patti told Opie and Anthony of her harrowing experience at the shelter on the air, Eddie called in to the show and offered to allow Patti to stay at his home. Opie and Anthony both pressed Eddie over the phone to admit his true reasons for his generous offer, and also questioned how "normal" Eddie was. After pressing the issue for several minutes, Eddie admitted that he was helping Patti to make up for a mistake he made years ago. When Anthony asked what he did, Eddie replied "Murder" as a one-word answer.

Eddie explained in great detail how he murdered two Colombian drug dealers who were threatening his friend in Brooklyn the same year as the Son of Sam killings in New York City. Eddie went into great detail about the type of weapon he used, an M1 Semi-Carbine, and how he disposed of the bodies. He said that because the dealers were probably illegal aliens, no one ever knew the murder occurred since there were no records.

The New York media caught onto the story, as did the NYPD. Eddie was questioned at his home the next day, and provided great radio as he called in while his house was surrounded by NYPD vehicles. Eddie agreed to wear a WOW t-shirt if he was taken to jail to help the show gain media attention. This show was a highlight of the WNEW shows, as frequent guest Jim Breuer was in the studio and mercilessly mocked Eddie. Also, several members of the NYC media made visits live on the show to get quotes from Opie and Anthony.

No charges were ever brought against Eddie, as there was no proof he actually committed the crime. It was later found out that Eddie previously had called into the show using different names (verified in the "Opie buys a TV" bit). In addition, Eddie was also a frequent caller to the Ron and Fez show. Stalker Patti never met Eddie, and stayed at Ron and Fez staffer Billy Staples' house while looking for a new place to live.
