Diabetes (dī'a-bē'tĭs, -tēz) is any of several metabolic disorders marked by excessive discharge of urine and persistent thirst, especially one of the two types of diabetes mellitus. Side-effects include the loss of a limb, such as a toe (in Pat from Moonachie's case). Diabetes can be exacerbated by consumption of copious amounts of eggnog.
