Brother Wease
From OAPedia.com
Considered the king of radio in Upstate NY, Brother Wease (real name Alan Levin) has been a close friend and mentor to Opie since he first began his career in radio in Buffalo and Rochester, NY. Wease hosted a popular morning show, "Radio Free Wease", on WCMF and WBUF in New York. He formerly hosted a featured weekend show on WNEW in New York City. In addition to his successful career in radio, Wease also was a concert promoter. He hosted two Woodstock events, and served three tours "in the shit" in Vietnam.
Wease has been battling a rare form of cancer and has had to undergo excrutiating treatment in New York City. Opie frequently gives updates on Wease's progress on the show, and helped him during his treatment. Always the showman, Wease has started a campaign to "Kick Cancer's Ass" with a foundation and website.
Recently, WCMF fired its on-air talent except for Brother Wease, who was only offered 40% of his contract in order to stay with the station. Wease ended up joining WFXF-FM 95.1 "The Fox" in Rochester, but because of a non-compete clause in his previous contract, he will not appear on air for some time.
