Barack Obama

Barack Obama is the winner of the 2008 Presidential election, and thus the 44th President of the United States, and the first black President thereof. He has been discussed a number of times on The Opie and Anthony Show.

Opie had often shouted "OBAMA!" long before the election (unfortunately, Opie's Sports Curse did not apply to the Presidential race). When Obama came out against Don Imus' "Nappy-headed hos" joke, saying that Imus should lose his job for it, Opie declared he would no longer shout Obama's name, but that didn't last and he went back to doing it after enough time had passed. As Obama's Presidency progressed, Opie became more and more convinced that Obama really was a nerd, and that he's no different than any other politician.

Anthony has voiced his dissatisfaction with Obama, primarily because he feels Obama is socialist, but everyone thinks he really objects to his skin color. Anthony said a good reason to vote against Obama was because Goldie Wilson, the black Mayor in Back to the Future, did a lousy job cleaning up Hill Valley. As Obama was on the cusp of winning, Anthony went ballistic at the thought of him taking away his guns and his riches. After Obama was elected, Anthony was harassed by some blacks shouting "Obama president naaaaaaahhh!"

Jimmy often poo-pooed the idea of Obama becoming President, saying he had one good speech (at the 2004 Democratic National Convention) and everyone wanted him to be President because of that. Since then, he has changed his opinion on Obama, thinking there was something more to him. He also wasn't interested in Obama's opponent, John McCain, winning and becoming another old white guy occupying the White House. On September 24, 2008, Jim said "I like him [Obama], I want to see him win".

It is noteworthy that, although they voiced some disaproval for Obama, a questionnaire revealed that both Opie and Jim should have voted for Barack Obama based on their political stances (for Jimmy, Obama was tied with Hillary Clinton for first place). Anthony's test rsults showed that he should have supported ultra-conservative Republican candidate Duncan Hunter, which Anthony disagree with after learning some of Hunter's hard core Christian and socially conservative stances.

Black Earl, not surprisingly, was in favor of Obama becoming President. Steve C also indicated he was voting for Obama in the election (Stunt Brain, E-Rock, and Primetime Sam Roberts were among the show members who said they would vote for Republican candidate Senator John McCain). Sam Roberts' choice of McCain was based on his opinion that McCain had the best promo on WWE when all the Presidential front runners submitted one on RAW.
