Backstage with O&A is an Opie and Anthony bit where Primetime Sam Roberts narrates what goes on behind the scenes of the show or after the show is over. The bit includes Sam reading copy explaining recent show events, and then interjecting real audio captured in the hallway with those involved in whatever event is being covered.

The bit developed over the course of many months, beginning with the shows own coverage of the Antholini saga. Sam began producing bits for the show in the pop-news style of shows like TMZ, Access Hollywood or Top 40 entertainment news. The bits reported on the various happenings of Anthony and Jill's relationship. Often humorous, purposefully false assumptions based on meager facts were made. Later when Tom from White Plains called into the show to say goodbye before intending to shoot himself, Jim talked him down and prevented the suicide attempt. When news outlets falsely reported that Opie had talked Tom out of killing himself Sam made more mock "Antholini"-style news segments in which he mocked real life news coverage by also reporting Opie's heroics, whilst playing all of Jim's clips with Tom.

Over the next year Sam developed more pop-news segments. While many discussed the events of behind the scenes at O&A, others were aired that lambasted entertainment news of the time, like Rihanna's attack by Chris Brown.

In April, "Backstage with O&A" segments, with that precise title began. One recent segment featured Jesse Ventura continuing to ramble on about 9/11 conspiracies even when the show went off the air, and when he was about to cut show promos.
